The Body: Master, we perish
30/09/13 || Pr0nogo
Opening with a klaxon and following up with all the distortion of an early-1900’s wartime broadcast, “Master, We Perish” is an eclectic sludge release from Oregon outfit The Body. The kind of stuff you’ll hear on this record is something of a sonic adaptation of ‘the end of all things’, which is what the band states they write their songs about. And honestly, if you already clicked away at this point, I don’t blame you – that’s a pretty goofy and contrived lyrical focus. For those of you who’ll issue further complaints about ridiculous distortion and walls of noise, I honestly can’t blame you for that, either.
The Portland duo is targeting a very specific audience with this kind of music, but even with my limited experience with the sludge genre, I can’t quite see material worth recommending. It’s nothing special in the doomy, gloomy niches, but it’ll serve you well if you’re looking for more detached screaming and mindless distortion to fall asleep to. At least the artwork is mildly interesting.
Listen and watch here.
4/10: I suppose that, if you were really high, you could claim that they have a talent for ‘sonic landscaping’. But then you’d be racist against Mexicans.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
